ITINERARY
DAY 1 DARWIN TO MARY RIVER VIA LITCHFIELD NATIONAL PARK
Welcome to the Northern Territory! Your adventure begins in the tropical city of Darwin. Set off from Darwin and head south to Lichfield National Park, a huge sandstone plateau with dozens of waterfalls. Explore Florence Falls, Wangi Falls and the Buley Rockholes. After a picnic lunch, stroll through steamy rainforests and cool off with a dip in one of Litchfield's picturesque swimming holes. The day draws to an end with a wildlife cruise in the Mary River Wetlands, a network of waterways home to crocodiles and native bird species. Enjoy an Aussie pub meal before climbing into bed at the secluded Mary River campsite. All tents are twin-share and come with a proper bed. (L,D)
Note: Total driving time today is around five and a half hours (approximately 400kms). Total walking time will take approximately one hour.

DAY 2 KAKADU NATIONAL PARK: UBIRR & BARRAMUNDI GORGE
In giving Kakadu National Park World Heritage-listing, UNESCO described it as a ‘living cultural landscape with exceptional natural and cultural values’. Indigenous people have lived here for more than 50,000 years, which the ancient rock paintings of Ubirr can confirm. Your guide will explain the significance of these artworks during an interpretative cultural walk that finishes on a rocky escarpment overlooking the Nardab floodplain. In the afternoon, head to either Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) or Gunlom Falls (seasonal choice) and cool off with a dip in the plunge pools. Swimming spots don’t get a whole lot more inviting than either of these spectacular sites. Tonight, relax by the pool at the Kakadu campground and enjoy a group dinner. (B,L,D)
Note: Total driving time today is about six and a half hours (approximately 550kms). Total walking time will be approximately two hours.

Later spend time exploring Kakadu’s other major Aboriginal rock art site – Nourlangie (Burrunggui), while your guide provides a glimpse into how the local Aboriginal people live. After lunch, begin your journey back to Darwin. (B,L)
