The astounding temples of Angkor are a must-see experience. The Angkor Archaeological Park encompasses over a thousand temples, all the remains of different capitals of the Khmer Empire between the 9th and 15th centuries.

Rising early, journey to the old city of Angkor Thom and pass through the magnificent South Gate. At Angkor Thom’s centre is the enigmatic Bayon, a breathtaking temple of sculptural decorations. Also, admire the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King or why not continue to Ta Prohm, left in the grips of the jungle.
 

Cycling Angkor

Exploring the temples by bicycle is the perfect way to get up close to the temples while staying cool! Cycling through ancient gateways and visit areas that are inaccessible to cars and coaches. This trip visits the main temples of Angkor including Angkor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm, along with lesser-known Boeng Mealea. Whilst cycling a support vehicle is always available for peace of mind.

ITINERARY
DAY 1 ARRIVE SIEM REAP
Arrive in Siem Reap and transfer to your hotel. At 2:00pm you will take a cycling tour of beautiful Siem Reap and get accustomed and comfortable with your bike for days ahead. Siem Reap is located just North of the Tonle Sap Lake and your bike ride today will give you a good orientation of all that this town has to offer including the Royal Residence, Central Market, Old Market and one of the local Killing Fields. Tonight you may wish to try some local Khmer food at one of the many restaurants near Pub Street.
Overnight: Tara Angkor Hotel.

DAY 2 THE TEMPLE OF ANGKOR
The Temples of Angkor represent six hundred years (802-1432) of Khmer civilisation, one of Asia's greatest Kingdoms. This morning you will depart your hotel at 8:30 am to cycle to the Angkor complex located only eight kilometres from the centre of town. You will start with a visit to the world's largest sacred building and an architectural masterpiece, the magnificent Angkor Wat. You will then move onto the ancient city of Angkor Thom, which includes the eerie stone heads and evocative bas-reliefs of the Bayon Temple, Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. For lunch you can enjoy a local meal at one of the many small restaurants located within the Angkor Archaeological Park or ride back into town to eat at one of the many cafes and restaurants. After lunch, visit the captivating Temple of Ta Prohm, famous for being the location of the filming of the movie Tomb Raider, Banteay Kdei and Prasat Kravan temples. Total cycling distance today is approximately 30 kilometres.

DAY 3 BOENG MELEA TEMPLE
This morning start your ride by cycling on some great small roads before joining the sealed roads out to King Suryavararman the 2nd's eleventh-century Boeng Melea, passing through some rural villages and breathtaking landscapes. Boeng Melea stands almost forgotten in jungle and getting to the site is quite an adventure in itself. Isolated during Cambodia's civil war, Boeng Melea was under the control of the Khmer Rouge for decades but has since been de-mined and outsiders can now visit this safely visit this Temple. A picnic-style lunch at Boeng Melea is included. Cycling today is approximately 75 kilometres with support vehicle available.

ITINERARY
DAY 1 FLY TO PHNOM PENH
Fly to Cambodia’s captivating capital, Phnom Penh. You will be met at Phnom Penh in the arrivals hall by your Local Guide or National Escort from Wendy Wu Tours. Together with all other group members who may be arriving at a similar time, travel to your hotel for check in. Depending on your time of arrival, the rest of the day is yours to start soaking up the local culture.

DAY 2 PHNOM PENH
Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Phnom Penh today, sightseeing will be around three hours of leisurely walking this morning. Explore sites such as the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and the National Museum. Later, reflect on the history of the city with a visit to the Tuol Sleng Museum and Killing Fields. The visit to the Tuol Sleng Museum involves one hour on foot. This museum commemorates the atrocities that occurred during the regime of Pol Pot. The transfer south-west to the Killing Fields will take 30 minutes. You will spend about one hour here on foot for a harrowing insight into Cambodia’s tumultuous past. Most people find it quite confronting and emotional so you will be given time to explore on your own. End the day with a visit to Wat Phnom. The sunset visit to Wat Phnom involves a climb of 30 metres high and on ladders up to the hilltop temple (depending on the weather).

DAY 3 PHNOM PENH TO KEP
Head south, driving two to three hours, to the beach town of Kep. Stop en route at Tonle Bati before travelling to a pepper farm to learn about the renowned Kampot pepper. Continue the drive to Kep and transfer to the port, where you will board a rustic boat and travel around 20 minutes to Rabbit Island. You will spend around two hours here, enjoy some time at the beach before returning to Kep. Boarding your boat today could involve navigating your way over and through other boats, moored between it and the dock, sometimes without handrails, ladders or assistance from staff.

DAY 4 KEP TO SIHANOUKVILLE
Drive to the nearby town of Kampot, stopping to explore Phnom Chhnork. Upon arrival in the colonial town of Kampot, stroll along the river towards the local market. Travel two hours to Sihanoukville for your overnight stay.

DAY 5 SIHANOUKVILLE
Enjoy a full day free at leisure to further explore this seaside town.

DAY 6 SIHANOUKVILLE TO PHNOM PENH
Drive back to Phnom Penh, stopping at Kirirom National Park for two to three hours and enjoy a picnic lunch. Continue to Phnom Penh to check into your hotel for an overnight stay. Driving time today will be around five hours.

DAY 7 PHNOM PENH TO BATTAMBANG
Head north today as you begin the drive to Battambang. Stop en route for a couple of hours to explore Udong and Kampong Chhnang Province to see traditional handmade pottery, and climb Touch Hill to admire the surroundings. There are approximately 416 steps to climb to reach the top of Touch Hill. Continue to Battambang and enjoy the reminder of the afternoon at leisure. Driving time today will be around six hours.

DAY 8 BATTAMBANG
Climb to the top of Phnom Banan to reach the Prasat Banan Temple and admire the breathtaking view. Return to the town and walk through the village of Wat Kor. In the afternoon, visit ‘La Maison de Coco’ and learn how to make rice paper before heading to visit Bat Cave at Phnom Sampov.
Please note rice paper making is seasonal, when this is not available you will still see the rice paper as well as visiting an orphanage school and a tailors’ workshop.

DAY 9 BATTAMBANG TO SIEM REAP
Depart Battambang and travel three hours to Siem Reap, stop en route in the Puok District to visit the National Silk Centre. Continue to Siem Reap, and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

DAY 10 SIEM REAP
Spanning from the 9th to 15th century, the Angkor complex with over 1,000 temples was the seat of the thriving Khmer Empire. UNESCO manages the complex and, to enter, your group will drive approximately six kilometres out of town to the main entrance gate to get your entrance passes, which you must carry with you. If you choose to climb at any site, you must be able to climb and descend without assistance. Begin at the city of Angkor Thom and the enigmatic Bayon, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King before continuing to the temple of Ta Prohm, enveloped in a labyrinth of jungle. This afternoon is devoted to the fascinating and awe-inspiring Angkor Wat.

Please note: The Central Tower of the Angkor Wat complex is closed on Buddhist holidays and on all other days has a limited number of visitors allowed at any given time, under regulations from UNESCO. If you wish to visit this tower, you will be required to wait in the queue alongside all other visitors. The ability to do this will be determined upon the groups’ schedule.

DAY 11 SIEM REAP
This morning, travel to Kbal Spean to see the intricate carvings. Continue to Banteay Srei and later explore Banteay Samre, before climbing to the summit of Pre Rup Temple to view the sunset over the paddy fields.

DAY 12 SIEM REAP
Today explore the less-visited Beng Mealea, a mysterious temple completely overrun by the jungle where you will explore on foot for approximately an hour and half. In the high-water season, you will also visit Kompong Khleang, a unique village on stilts. In the lower water season, you will visit Chong Kneas floating village. Return to Siem Reap via a Cambodian artistry assembly - Les Artisans D’Angkor, before arriving back at your hotel this evening. Tonight, enjoy dinner while watching an Apsara dance performance.

DAY 13-14 SIEM REAP TO AUSTRALIA
This morning is at your leisure before you are transferred to Siem Reap airport to board your flight to Australia.

Begin the day with a visit to the colossal Angkor Wat, before exploring at Angkor Thom and the multi-faced Bayon Temple.  See the Elephant Terrace before enjoying your refreshing Khmer lunch. Later visit the atmospheric Ta Prohm Temple as seen in the film Tomb Raider.

DAY 3 SIEM REAP
Enrich Experience - Marvel at sunrise over the magnificent Angkor Wat before moving to a special location for a champagne breakfast with food prepared by an NGO supported local bakery school.

DAY 5 WAT HANCHEY - KAMPONG CHAM
Walk (or drive) to the top of Wat Hanchey, an ancient hilltop pagoda and monastery to meet the resident novice monks. Sail downstream to Kampong Cham.
Freechoice Experience - Learn about the history of the area with a visit to Phnom Pros (Man Hill) and then Wat Nokor. Alternatively explore the ecotourism village of Cheung Kok or spend your time visiting a rubber plantation factory and beetle nut village.

DAY 6 KAMPONG CHAM - OUDONG - KHO CHEN
Arrive in Kampong Tralach and experience an ox cart ride through a local village and fields. Board your coach to the ancient capital of Oudong to visit the impressive pagoda and monastery to observe the lifestyle of the resident monks and nuns.
Enrich Experience - Receive a blessing from a monk and learn how to pray in a Buddhist pagoda before partaking in a ceremony, which contributes to the daily meal of the resident nuns and monks.
